How do you present service relevant data from different sources in a coherent way for operation and management?

As part of a Microsoft-based ITSM solution, you use System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) for monitoring.

  • SCOM is the umbrella system for all ITSM aspects
  • Additional network and application monitoring products are in use
  • Threshold alarms from within all products need to be seamlessly integrated with the SCOM solution
  • Bottlenecks based on performance data from additional tools must be detected in a timely fashion

Solution approach

The solution is based on the integration component 1Gateway, which integrates all tools with SCOM via “one” single management pack. 1Gateway connects with the specialized tools using so called out-of-the-box plugins. The messages are standardized to fit the requirements within the SCOM presentation layer.

A filter mechanism allows a selective use of the data from specialized tools. Data is enriched as needed with CI information (configuration item) on its way to the destination. The various origins of performance data displayed in SCOM can easily be identified by the appropriate TAGs.
