Starting point
How do you present data from various tools in order to be able to forecast the trend of a business-critical service?
The department needs data to forecast the trend of a business-critical service. The necessary data is available, but is spread across your IT organization in different tools.
- The relevant information consists of data points from the objects of applications such as (speed, response time, status etc.)
- Data gathering happens every second
- Data points for new objects are dynamically added to the architecture and must be included in the forecast
Solution approach
Modern time-series databases available on the market today are ideal to quickly and easily process large amounts of performance data without delay. To address presentation needs, the open-source component InfluxDB, in combination with Grafana, is used.
The integration component 1Gateway ensures the connection of the various tools. The tools are attached via so-called 1Gateway out-of-the-box plugins. 1Gateway ensures that the data is stored in the format that is aligned to the requirements of the department.
This integration method allows the data format to be ideally matched to the possibilities of the visualization. Additional new objects are dynamically expanded within Grafana’s existing performance charts. The information for business forecasting created in this way is promptly available to the department.
